The fanzine, entitled Second Quest, will be available in PDF as well as in black & white and full color printed versions. Second Quest will ship with two different (randomly selected) covers and will be available right here starting on Friday, December 21st… just in time for Christmas.

Printed Version of Issue Zero Now for Sale!

We finally have all the printed copies of the ‘zine completed and they are up for sale! The price is $5.50 +shipping . We tried to keep the price as low as possible, and all proceeds go towards funding future issues.

You can still download the PDF free of charge, but personally I like to have a physical copy, and that includes video games, books AND ‘zines.

Head over to the Issue Zero page to view the article list, download the PDF or purchase the printed version.

Praise for Hold Reset

I highly encourage you to head over to Super Famicom Guy’s excellent blog, not only because it’s a fountain of information about ridiculously cool old video games, but also because Stu has posted a piece praising the debut issue of Hold Reset!

This truly means a lot to all of us who have worked hard bringing this project to fruition. Thanks again, Stu!

Hold Reset Issue Zero Released!

The day has finally come, and the first issue of Hold Reset is now available for download. The contributors did a fantastic job, with topics ranging from the minutia of Super Mario Bros. to brilliance of Little Samson.

The overall theme of our first issue is the Nintendo Entertainment System, which is fitting as the NES was the very console where many of us got our start in both playing, and collecting video games.

Options to purchase print copies coming soon! In the meantime please download the Issue Zero PDF and help is spread the word!

Test Print

With the launch of Hold Reset around 3 weeks away, we have run two test prints. We are still awaiting 3 articles, and the cover is still being worked on, but the bulk of the layout is complete and we are in the home stretch.

Next update will be in late September and will be a preview of Issue Zero with a full article list and detailed pictures of the final product!

Format the Format

Just a small update here; we started the issue zero layouts over the weekend, and things are going nice and smooth. Over the next few weeks we will be tweaking the layout and getting all the articles and artwork edited and put together. So far it looks like there is going to be a pretty broad range of topics covering all things NES in the debut issue. Keep checking back, as we’ll keep updating on our progress.

Issue Zero in Production

The debut issue of Hold Reset is currently being complied and pieced together. The plan is to have it set loose into the ether in printed and PDF form on October 1st, 2012.

We are also planning to have a launch event for the debut issue, which will likely involve a keg party at a local arcade. Queen City Retro Fun Club t-shirts and copies of the ‘zine will be for sale at the launch party, with a portion of the door procedes going towards a local charity.

As far as distribution, the plan is to have free PDF downloads of the ‘zine available from HoldReset.org, and print a small run of hardcopies to be made available locally and shipped worldwide.

The issues will also be reprinted here article by article after each is released, starting in early October.

Check back in the coming weeks as we work hard to get everything finalized!
